The volume of container handling in VMTP increased by 10% in January 2014.

21 February 2014
The volume of container handling in Vladivostok Commercial Seaport (VMTP, the part of FESCO Transportation Group) increased by 10% in January 2014 versus the same period of the previous year and formed 38.6 thousand TEU.

Such increase is caused by the raise of imported containers’ traffic (28% comparing with January 2013). The share of containerized cargo at the port’s total cargo turnover amounted 47%.

In January the positive dynamics were also marked in the volume of general cargo (excluding containers, vehicles, petroleum products) — the increase amounted 16.4%. The growth was caused by the increased volumes of handling exported cargo YoY, for example, metallurgical coke — 14.3%, metals — 27%, pulp and paper products — 27.4%. Coastal cargo handling growth amounted 8.8%.

Ruslan Alikhanov, the President of FESCO Transportation Group, said: «The growth of VMTP turnover in January 2014 has become a continuation of a stable trend kept from 2013. On the one hand, it is caused by applying modern manufacturing processes that increase the efficiency of handling in the port. On the other — by the volume increase in turnover between the Far East and Southeast Asian countries. The growth of general cargo export handling in VMTP is also marked in January.»
